Another Fantastic Dinner at Mandurang Valley Wines

Monday, January 23, 2012

Saturday night seen another fantastic dinner at Mandurang Valley Wines. A beautiful summer evening allowed our guests (some first timers, some seasoned veterans) to wander and enjoy our lush gardens, whilst savouring some delicous canapes matched to our 2008  Sauvignon Blanc Semillon and our 2010 Riesling.

Menu was prepared and cooked by Executive Chef, Mick Fry, one of Bendigo's most well known chef's and diners were certainly not disappointed. Trio of Seafood followed by Roasted Quail with Crispy Prosciutto left guests with big smiles on their faces. The Quail was teamed with Mandurang Valley 2004 Point Noir - still fresh, vibrant and showing delicious cherry and red fruit flavours. This was definitely a highlight, with very few bottles remaining in the cellar.

Main course of Dry Aged Eye Fillet topped with Pate, Crisp Green Beans & Red Wine Jus just melted in the mouth. Once again - diners were lucky enough to sample two 10 year old wines from Mandurang Valley - 2002 Shiraz (which was what I believed to be our best vintage until 2009) and Cabernet. Two different beasts, but still more than holding their own. Preference were split down the middle, but to me, the Cabernet definitely stood out, still with some fine, grippy tannin structure and plenty of blackberry fruit and spice on the palate.

After some music from John and Lou (well know musicians throughout Bendigo), we were treated to Roasted Stone Fruit with Double Cream and a small sample of the super rich Chocolate Marquise. This was washed down with what I believe to be our finest Shiraz to date - our 2009 Vintage. Fresh, upfront fruit flavours, silky smooth and the well balanced oak makes this wine stand out from the crowd.

With our courtesy bus taking the very happy diners home at 11.30, it was time to sit back and put our feet up and start planning our next dinner!

Huge Bottles a Hit for Mandurang Valley Wines

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

We are thrilled to announce our latest shipment of wines to Nanjing, China will soon be leaving the country. Nanjing, located in eastern China is home to over 5 million people, however, this shipment is slightly different!

Along with a substantial order of standard sized 750ml bottles and a smaller order of 375ml bottles, other bottles to be sent to Nanjing include 3lt (Double Magnums), 6lt (Imperial) and 9lt (Salmanazar) bottles. To put this in perspective, a Salmanazar holds the equivalent of 12 bottles of wine or one case!

It certainly was an adventure for us and took our team three weeks to complete to the highest quality including corks, wax sealing, labeling and of course, the wine inside! The Chinese use these bottles predominantly for gifts and presentations, often in the bank and government sectors. It has even been mentioned that it is most likely the most extensive bottling of larger bottles ever undertaken in the region!

Don’t worry! We can still fulfill orders for fans of Mandurang Valley Wines in any of the bottle sizes. To place an order or to enquire about price, simply contact us with the size and number of bottles you require on 5439 5367 or pop into the cellar door and say hi!

Mandurang Valley Scores High with Halliday

Thursday, July 28, 2011

James Halliday’s 2012 Wine Companion has just been released and Mandurang Valley is thrilled to announce that two of their wines have scored in excess of 90. The winery itself also received a 4 ½ star rating, indicating a winery of very high quality.

The 2008 Old Vine received a score of 94 as a wine of the highest quality, as well as receiving a red star indicating a wine that is considered to offer special value for money.
Tasting notes: From estate-grown vines planted in 1976 and ’78; has retained good hue; well made, with the range of dark berry fruits, 12 months' maturation in new French oak and ripe tannins all balanced and integrated. Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz/Merlot.
Rating: 94 Drink By: 2023

The 2008 Shiraz was awarded 91 points being a wine of great quality, style and character.
Tasting Notes: Crimson-purple; an unusually floral bouquet with heady spice and pepper aromas, then a juicy, medium-bodied palate with bright red and black fruits, the oak obvious at this stage, plus a touch of regional mint.
Rating: 91 Drink By: 2018 (Now Sold Out)

The 2008 Old Vine and all our other wines are available online by clicking here, at our Cellar Door or numerous wine retailers. Please email or call if you would like more details or would like to stock these wines in your restaurant/bottle shop.
